01.2013: Towards “green transport corridor” benchmarking

Pic. The cluster meeting took place back-to-back with the kick-off conference of the BSR Programme project “BSR TransGovernance”.

The 2nd Transport Cluster meeting took place in Tallinn on 16 January 2013, and attracted not only the cluster partners but also representatives of the Nordic Logistic Corridor initiative (NLC) and the Joint Technical Secretariat of the BSR Programme 2007-2013.

The first session was dedicated to the benchmarking of the green transport solutions produced by the individual cluster projects. The think-tank work, led by the City of Helsinki, is aimed to compare and generalise results towards green corridor blueprints. A first summary of deliverables produced by ongoing and finalised transport projects was presented, as well as conclusions from a performed survey on key characteristics and requirements for the development of green transport corridors. Next think-tank session is scheduled on 21 March.

The second session gave stage to the NLC and JTS for presentations of their ongoing work and possible liaisons with the cluster. A dialogue between the cluster and the JTS will help profile a design of the future transport (accessibility) priority in the BSR Programme 2014-2020. Other presentations featured some first results of the cluster work – as exemplified by the Port of Hamburg Marketing’s report on parallel transport initiatives with potential cluster synergies. The authors have made the remarkable work of examining the extensive pool of relevant EU funding programmes, coming up to approximately 100 transport related projects and initiatives with potential synergies.
